Is God Bipolar?

Scripture – Revelation 6:10
They cried out with a loud voicet “How long, Sovereign Master, holy and true, before you judge those who live on the earth and avenge our blood?”

Observation
The people asking this of God are some who have been murdered for their faith, for being witnesses of Jesus. They want revenge for their murder and they are expecting God to do it. It isn’t completely clear if this is being asked out of anger or bitterness, but there is an expectation of justice.

Application
Depending on what’s happening, it seems like people tend to criticize God for not caring about injustice or not doing anything about it, or they criticize God for being too angry, wrathful and destructive. He isn’t a God of love when He judges and He isn’t a God of justice when He shows grace and mercy. Is the problem with people or with God? With people of course. A day is coming when God will judge all the iniquity of the ages. He will execute justice. Where is the love? He’s already done that in Jesus. It’s available anytime. For now.

Prayer
Lord, I need to fear you for your justice and love you for your grace. Help me to be an example and an effective communicator of both truths to a world that needs to hear them. Thank you for your justice and your grace both exemplified in the life, death, and life again of Jesus.
