Discipleship

What is discipleship? What is a disciple? A disciple isn't simply a follower or one who agrees with Jesus. A disciples is one who wants to learn from, and lear how to become like their Master. It is one who follows so closely that as they follow Him, they get covered in His dust on the trail.

In Matthew 28 Jesus commanded His disciples to go into all the world and make more disciples. Not simply converts, but disciples. In Paul's writings he goes so far as to tell people to imitate him as he imitates Jesus, as well as telling others to be examples in the faith.

For these reasons, among others, instead of calling our age and gender-specific groups "ministries" we call them "discipleship". The word ministry means service. We feel that, while service is a huge part of being a disciple of Jesus, we can't just provide times and places for men, women, and youth to come and be served or entertained. We are called to disciple one another. Do we have the process down? By no means. We are always learning, always adapting, always trying to find the most effective ways for be discipled by Jesus and in turn disciple others.

We believe that, while discipleship is about the individual, it is also about the individual in their various environments. We are disciples of Jesus in our schools, our workplaces, our homes, our marriages, in every facet of our lives. One definition of a disciples is one who is OCD for Jesus. Every aspect of a disciples life is constantly being transformed into the likeness of Jesus, yet still unique to the individual. While we have different groups for men, women, youth, etc., we strive to make what we learn in one area bleed into every other area of our lives.

Being a disciples is a full-time, life transforming gig. Care to join us?
